This stunning art glass bowl is made by the old studio Strombergshyttan, Sweden. It is very heavy crystal hand blown art glass with the typical Strombergshyttan cut edge and a very light tinge of blue. Most likely designed by Gunnar Nylund, who designed most of the Strömbergshyttans collections from 1952-1975. This is signed and numbered, Strombergshyttan T458. The T means this is a bowl, and the number is to determine the date it was made.

In Sweden, there were a number of talented glass designers working during the 1920s and 1930s. Among the pioneers in the field included Edvard Stromberg (1872-1946). Stromberg began his career at Kosta, worked for a time for Orrefors, then moved with his wife Gerda Stromberg (1879-1960) to Eda glasshouse. The original Strömbergshyttan was founded in 1933 by Edvard and his wife Gerda Stromberg. Before 1933, the glasshouse was called Lindefors. Gerda Strömberg was an artist who designed some very nice objects for Eda glasshouse and who, in 1933 designed the first collection for the Strömbergshyttan. In the late 30s she was joined by her daughter-in-law Asta Strömberg, who in 1945 took over the glasshouse with her husband Eric Strömberg. Eric was a chemist and used his knowledge to introduce the very special blue color that the Strömbergshyttan became known for (like this bowl). Strombergshyttan developed a solid reputation for extremely simple but very high quality bowls and vases. There are a number of designers that worked for a very long time at the Strömbergshyttan. They were Asta Strömberg, Gunnar Nylund, Rune Strand, Anders Solfors and Lars Wigell. In 1979 the factory was permanently closed. The old Strombergshyttan Studio should not be confused with the new, Studioglas Strömbergshyttan which was founded in 1987 by a completely different group of talented glass designers.
