Rare sterling silver and enamel, historical commemorative sweetheart bracelet. This sterling silver and enameled bracelet is from WWII and is a link bracelet with 5 enameled flag plaques. Flags are of; United States, United Kingdom, Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, Republic of China (known as Nanjing Nationalist Government 1940-1945), the middle flag is a Service Star Banner. All flags are of WWII allies. Display of the Service Star Banner first came about during World War I. During WWI and WWII most flags were hand made by mothers across the nation; each blue star on the flag represents a service member in active duty. Since France, another WWII ally, is not represented on the bracelet this was most likely made during the German occupation of France. Bracelets like these were given as gifts by serviceman to their sweethearts or mothers, hence the name sweetheart bracelet. There are a few pin marks on enamel, sterling has original patina. Each flag marked on back Sterling.
